About Heidi Williams, DVM
Dr. Heidi Williams received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tufts University in 1999. She then went on to continue her training in equine veterinary medicine by completing a highly competitive one-year internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky followed by a three-year surgical residency program at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. Following her advanced training in equine medicine and surgery, Dr. Williams joined Tufts University as principle veterinarian for their ambulatory service. In January 2010, Dr. Williams formed Williams Equine LLC.
Dr. Williams has gained valuable experience with surgery, internal medicine, radiology, ultrasonography and dentistry. Her professional interests include ophthalmology, lameness and surgery.
Dr. Williams grew up in the heart of Maryland steeplechase country. Her career with horses began as a groom and exerciser rider for "hall of fame" steeplechase rider and trainer Mickey Smithwick . She completed a undergraduate degree in Animal Science at the University of Vermont. Between college and veterinary school, she guided horse pack trips and trained Morgan horses in Crested Butte, Colorado.
Dr. Williams is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association, Society for Theriogenology and the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners.
Dr. Williams lives in Carlisle, Massachusetts with her husband, three daughters, two dogs, two goats, one horse, one cat and several chickens.
